TRUST CHOIR SINGS LOCH LOMOND
We are delighted to share an exciting collaboration across the Balcarras Trust. Students from The High School Leckhampton, Balcarras School and Winchcombe School have joined together to record a special crosstrust version of Loch Lomond.

The next stage of the project will be the filming of a music video in September, where we will bring the performance to life and celebrate the achievements of everyone involved. Bringing together talented singers from each school, the project celebrates the power of music to connect our communities and showcase the creativity and teamwork of our students. The recording has been a fantastic opportunity for students to work with peers from across
the Trust, sharing their passion for performance and creating something truly memorable together.
We look forward to sharing the finished video with our school communities later this year!

MFL SPELLING BEE

All schools competed in the Trust’s inaugural MFL Spelling Bee competition in July! This marked an exciting milestone for language learning across the partnership.
In the lead‑up to the final held at Balcarras, our students competed in a number of qualifying rounds, demonstrating both determination and resilience to master French and Spanish vocabulary.
Congratulations to all students who participated and we look forward to seeing how this new tradition grows moving forward!
Geography quiz

Balcarras recently hosted the first cross-trust geography quiz. There were 8 teams, each made up of 4 pupils from Years 8 and 9. It was a very close quiz!
The first three rounds covered countries, map skills and tectonic hazards. At the end of the first half, The Callipos of Balcarras were in first place, just 1 point ahead of The Pyroclastic Flows of HSL. Pupils then enjoyed drinks and cookies before competing in a further 3 rounds of geographical quizzing.
The second half saw 3 more tense rounds of quizzing, on themes of TNC logos and global brands, climate change and sustainability, and landmarks from the air. At the end of round 6, both The Callipos and The Pyroclastic Flows were on 56 points. We therefore went to a tie breaker... The River Nile in Africa is famously known as the longest river in the world. How many kilometres long is the Nile River? The Pyroclastic Flows had the closest guess so took the win!
Congratulations to all involved. It was a really successful cross-trust event that enabled our young geographers to
come together to celebrate their enthusiasm and passion for all things geography.
